Welcome to C.G.Associates Summer Math and Science Institutes And Year-Round Consulting ---------- The Science Institute 2010 Dates: June 20-25 Details and registration form can be downloaded below.

The week-long Science Institute/Workshop focuses on: Working with hands-on materials and science activities and the thinking processes that make sense of them; Exploring the design technology process using recycled materials as well as commercial kits such as Legos, Capsela, and Linx; Launching a field trip to the beautiful rocky Massachusetts coast, to study tide pool ecology, and related classroom activities that might be included in a thematic study of the oceans; Plumbing the depth of the "tried and true", such as batteries and bulbs, mystery powders, acid/base chemistry, land snails, crayfish, and paper airplanes; Keeping current with what research has to say about practices that promote access to science for all and curriculum that is aligned with national standards; Extending one's own understanding of science education by providing a forum for discussion and reflection about teaching, assessing, finding materials, refining curriculum, and holding our work up to the light of standards.

Faculty For the Science Intitute/Workshop Includes: Sally Crissman: Director of this workshop for 27 years; former science teacher and Middle School Head at Shady Hill School; currently Senior Science Curriculum Developer at TERC; author of books and articles on science education; science consultant and workshop leader for public and independent schools; founder and former director of Kieve Science Camp for Girls. Tracy Polte: Co-Director of this workshop for ten years; science teacher in independent schools in Tennessee and Massachusetts; currently Science Department Chair at Shady Hill School; workshop leader and science curriculum developer.
